Thalassemia – A Complicated Disease

Every year 8th May is celebrated across the world as World Thalassemia Day. The intention behind this celebration is to create awareness about this fatal disease amongst people of the world. This disease is herditary disease and this disease is formerly known as Thalassemia or Genetic Blood Disorder Group. 

Lets understand what is Thalassemia in detail, Hemoglobin – a red blood cell component which carries oxygen. Hemoglobin is formed of two proteins one is known as alpha and other is known as beta. During Thalassemia disease the body becomes unable to produce this proteins in sufficient quantity and thus insufficient amount of oxygen is carried which later results in Anemia. In Anemia disease production of fresh blood stops which creates obstacle in routine life.

Lacs of people across the world are suffering from this disease. 2.5 Lac people alone in Pakistan are suffering from this disease and they require blood bottles regularly. Also WHO (World Health Organization) had issued a warning that if this disease is not taken under control soon then it may became killer disease of this century. Patients suffering from this disease needs blood transfusion every week in order to live, this treatment is very expensive and risky. Also the patient suffers problem in rountine activities such as walking, running, thinking etc, and if somehow blood transfusion is not done within a week then it may turn into fatal situations.

What are Symptoms of Thalassemia?

A person suffering from this disease looks stressed and tensed due to reduction of blood levels in body. After blood transfusion the person looks fresh and normal. If anyone from couple either husband or wife is Thalassemic then child gets higher chances of being Thalassemic. The person suffering from this disease faces problems socially as well as economically. Nobody wants to marry with such a person so this is how he is affected socially and due to high expenses of this treatment the person gets affected economically.

Everybody in this world wants to live as long as they can, but many people believe that life and death is not under our control. They are partially right but if you preserve your health then you get better chances to live long. We all love our family, surroundings and beautiful world and we’re always worried what will happen to them after our eyes get closed and that is the main reason why a person wants to live more. Bcoz we love our people, our family and the beauty of mother nature. I therefore explaining below mentioned 6 important tips which will help you to live long healthy life.

1) Avoid Cigarette And Tobacco

Tobacco and Cigarette are the main cause of Cancer and thus it decreases your life. It is believed that a single cigarette can reduce your life by six minutes. So if you’re smoking 10 per day then you’re lowering your life one hour. So first step is to say no to cigarette and tobacco products.

2) Excercise Regularly

There is difference between excercising and excercising regularly. If you excercise your body atleast half an hour a day then you can avoid many health related problems. With excercise you’ll empower your muscles, heart, lungs and joints and they perform well. Also excercise can increase your immune power and thus you can stay away from may diseases and infections.

3) Sleep Atleast Eight Hours

Sleep is like repair and maintenance operation of your body. Sleep is very important for healthy living, during sleep the body performs it maintenance and thus growth of new tissues becomes easy for the body. Also there are many other benefits related to sleep and thus scientists had concluded that a person should sleep atleast eight hours.

4) Intake Snack At Regular Intervals

Snacking is very important for body. If you dont snack at regular intervals then your energy levels will fall, blood sugar level will decreased and indirectly your immune power becomes low.  Snacks just dont mean sugary treats or any other unhealthy food, it should consist of healthy natural products. If you dont snack properly then you’ll eat more at meal times and thus you will then face weight issues.

5) Intake Meal At Appropriate Times

Dinner and Lunch are as important as Snacking. Its just that you need to intake more calories. Like snacking your meal should consist of health rich foods, fresh vegetables and fruits. If you fail to do so then above mentioned conditions applies again.

6) Balanced Diet

As you might be aware that your body needs various minerals, proteins, vitamins and fat to perform its regular operations, you need to take special care of your diet. You need to maintain their ratio’s and if you fail to do so then it may create problems. You every meal should consist of 250-300 gms carbohyderate, 50-60 gms protein, 30-40 gms fat and atleast 1-1.5 litres of water. For minerals and vitamins you should include fresh fruits and vegetable in your meal. A balanced diet is always the key to happy and long living.
