Pregnancy Tips

May 5th, 2009 by admin

A woman’s life will be fulfilled when she delivers a baby. For most women, first time pregnancy would bring in fears which will overcome the happiness. Worries and pregnancy go hand in hand. But if proper care is taken at the time of pregnancy, one can avoid several problems. A healthy lifestyle is the key for a safe pregnancy. There are more issues concerned for the mothers on various matters such as the health of the baby, position of baby, labor pain, becoming tired often and much more.

Some precautionary measures have to be taken while pregnancy. One should follow a healthy diet and must be brisk. Should do physical activities to certain extent. One should avoid alcohol during pregnancy and quit smoking. Mothers should have a healthy eating habit as they eat for two. On an average they need 300 calories extra per day. Some special vitamins are needed for both mother and child. Vitamin B is very essential. Periodical tests have to be taken to ensure both are safe. Proper measures have to be taken to avoid any ill health effects for the child. Calcium and Iron are more important. Calcium will help the mother to get more strength for her bones as the baby would take minerals from mother’s bone for its development. Iron helps in carrying oxygen.

One should avoid taking improper medications during pregnancy. Women must consult the doctors on what medicine to be taken. For the baby to be healthy, the mother should be healthy. But very few medicines are tested safe for both. Because scientifically most medications are not tested on pregnant women. Drugs tested on animal fetus may not necessarily demonstrate the same on a woman. Doctors advice pregnant women to exercise at least for 20 minutes thrice in a week. But avoid deep knee bends, touching the toes and other exercises which will risk your tummy. Staying in shape will help in the reduction of labor pain. Ladies must take the advantage of present day technology during pregnancy period and stay healthy.

Risks Of High Blood Pressure

May 5th, 2009 by admin

High blood pressure is hypertension. Normally the heart pumps blood through arteries. The blood pressure tells us about the force with which it forces the blood on the walls of arteries. The pressure is high when it pumps out blood and lowers when heart is at rest between the beats. The rate between the two for a normal man is termed as 120/80.

Blood pressure normally increases when we do activities like running, jumping which involves physical activities and lowers while sleeping. But some people tend to have a high blood pressure even when they are normal. During the adult age, men have higher blood pressure and the reverse becomes true when they become older. The hereditary factors also play a vital role. If the grand parents and parents had blood pressure, then you are more likely to get it.

The impacts of high blood pressure are so bad. Most of the times, it will lead to heart attacks, stroke, kidney damage. When the arteries carrying blood are being blocked, then less blood is transported which means there is a scarcity of oxygen. Due to lack of oxygen, heart attacks occur. Kidney helps in filtering the unwanted substances from blood. Since the blood vessels are being blocked, the function of kidney is arrested leading to kidney failure.

The primary or essential blood pressure cannot be controlled or cured. But the secondary blood pressure like which are caused due to pregnancy, use of birth control pills, hormonal abnormalities can be cured if the cause is identified and stopped. It is highly essential to take preventive measures to lower the blood pressure. Some of them are:

Do not add too much salt content
Maintain a healthy diet and weight
Be active physically

By following these tips, am sure one can lower the risk of having high blood pressure. It is good to have a healthy diet and nutritious content in a balanced way.

May 2nd, 2009 by admin

Obesity has been the biggest problem for the developed countries. Researches say that people with obesity consume 20% extra and they are unable to move their body. Hence they need the service of cars for easy travel which leads to high carbon dioxide emission.

On a larger scale, obesity not only affects the individual health but also a nation’s economy and climate. People take several measures to lose weight. But often they fail.

Losing weight is dependent on the number of calories that you intake. Either one must eat less or should do more of physical activity so that they can burn more calories. Controlling obesity has got no meaning without maintaining a diet. A diet does not mean to refrain from foods what you like. But the amount of food or calories taken in must be controlled.

There are often various weight loss programs. Some of them are do it yourself program where one follows his own assumptions or join a group of similar minded people and carry out activities. They may not give very good results but one can definitely feel the change. Non clinical programs are done by health counselors where they propagate their own ideas on losing weight. It is made commercial. Clinical programs involve professionals giving health tips on how to reduce weight. They might prescribe any supplement, diet and other drugs. They will prove effective. Some very low calories diet is prescribed by doctors who will give you no more than 800 calories per day replacing all the food items. Some may adapt gastric surgery which makes you lose weight in one of the two ways.

Limiting the amount of food that your stomach can hold by removing some parts of stomach and

Making the food to bypass the intestines and make it poorly digested.

People with obesity must prefer a flexible diet which will not slow down their physical health and activities. Too much of body weight will also relate to high blood pressure and heart related risk. Hence it is advisable to maintain a diet and doing regular exercises stay healthy.
