Gaining Fitness Through Regular Activities

May 2nd, 2009 by admin

Fitness means staying healthy in its simpler term. There is a popular saying, “If wealth is lost, something is lost. But when health is lost, everything is lost”. One has to be healthy to remain fit even in their older age. The phrase “Fitness” is becoming a myth these days. In the fast pace world with monotonous jobs, people have started leading a machine’s life. They do not find time to care about their health. The food habits have totally changed. Due to lack of time, people have started eating less nutritious food items. Junk foods have started dominating the market.

One should have a proper food habit and should exercise at least for half an hour at home. But most people prefer to go to gym for exercising. Due to lack time, they skip going to gym and end up doing no physical work. Here are some tips on how fitness can be obtained being at home. These are so simple and easy exercises for everyone to follow.

When you sit to watch your favorite television program, make sure you sit on the floor with legs stretched. Have your foot placed on the floor and try to bend forward. Try to touch your fingers and also your knee by your head. This can be quite difficult for some. But it comes your way when started doing. It gives a better relaxation for your back part and muscles. Take a normal stick and place it above your shoulders holding it by both hands. Tilt your body in a 45 degree angle on both sides. This will elongate your hip bones and muscles.

Start using the staircase instead of using lift. This will strengthen your quadriceps muscles. Start taking push-ups at home. This might sound weird for many. But believe me. I was able to take only 2 on the first day. But gradually I started taking 10 reputations on a set of 3 everyday after 2 weeks of time. This will be a good booster to have fitness.

Follow these simple steps and am sure you can be a Mr. Fit or Ms. Fit after in few months of time.

Causes of Breast Cancer

May 2nd, 2009 by admin

Cancer relates to the group of diseases that have some common things in them. They start developing in the cells which are the basic unit of life. Cells are being destroyed on getting cancer. Breast cancer is such a type of cancer which is mostly found in women. Usually women under the age of 35 are not prone to breast cancer. But women of age above 40 and 50 are highly vulnerable. It is also seen in male but the number of cases reported is less when compared to female.

A woman’s breast is made of lobes and ducts. The most common type of breast cancer is the ductal carcinoma. Another type is the obular carcinoma that arises in the lobules. The breast cancer has the tendency to multiply itself outside the breast. This is a clear indication that it has started spreading in the body. The risk factor for breast cancer is highly related with the age of women. The probability increases as when they get older. A personal history of having breast cancer will increase the chances of another attack. Also genetically changes can lead to this. If the family has got a history, chances are evident. Women who were treated and are exposed to radiation at younger age may develop chances and bearing first pregnancy after the age of 30 also are prone to breast caner.

Periodical tests have to be performed for women when they approach the older ages. A mammogram test may help in identifying the cancer disease before even the symptoms are felt. The changes in the shape of breasts are also clear indications. But one should remember that changes are evident as they grow older. Hence a clinical test will be sufficient. The early detection and treatment will help in faster curing of the disease. The treatment methodology heavily depends on the age, menopausal status, general health and size of breasts. It is always better to be preventive. Breast cancer cases are on their increasing note. Hence women must have constant clinical tests to remain healthy. Much awareness and knowledge on how to prevent might help in reducing the number of breast cancer cases.

Saying No To Smoking

May 2nd, 2009 by admin

Every cigar packet will have statutory warning as “Smoking is injurious to health”, but still people smoke. Some may start smoking at a very early stage in their life. Once when started as a social habit, it has now become an addiction for many. I have heard many people wanting to stop smoking but cannot do to so because they are addicted to it. Smoking is a very bad habit which may even take your life out. Learning the reasons why you smoke may help you quitting. People give various reasons for smoking. Some of them are:

  • Smoking gives more energy
  • Addicted to smoking
  • It gives relaxation and gives pleasure

When you fall under any of these categories, it can be made easy to find out solutions and help you in quitting from smoking.

If you say that you smoke to get more energy, then find out if you can derive that energy from any other substance. Am sure by taking rest, one can have more energy. Being brisk and more physical activity will engage in more work. Eating nutritious food and drinking lots of water will help you to get energy.

If you say you are addicted, it can be difficult to come out of that habit. Try smoking too many cigars before a day or two when you have decided to quit. This may kill the taste of cigars and you may dislike. The first attempt could not be successful. But the second or the third try will be successful. Think yourself as a non smoker.

If you say you get pleasure, try to enjoy the taste of tobacco separately. You will develop a strong dislike for its taste. Now the pleasure would not mind you. Start concentrating on things which will give you pleasure like reading books, sleeping. Relaxation can be obtained from having a nice time with family and friends.

What ever may be the reason to smoke, yet one can quit the habit of smoking and extend his life time. One must have a strong will to overcome this habit. Mental strength is much needed and am sure love and affection can change the habits in a person.

What is Swine Flu

May 1st, 2009 by admin

The Swine influenza is caused by the respiratory disorders of pig and outbreaks often in pigs. It is named as H1N1 virus by WHO. It is misunderstood that Swine virus is being spread by pigs but actually not. When a human being is attacked by this virus, then it becomes contagious and spreads only by human contact not by pigs. Most countries have started culling of pigs which is unnecessary.

Swine influenza is contagious but the rate at which it spreads is not yet determined. The symptoms include flu, high temperature, cough, sore throat, body ache, head ache, fatigue and some even report of vomiting and diarrhea. The virus spreads from the coughing or sneezing by people affected with the flu. It also spreads by touching any place affected by the virus and then when made contact with nose or mouth. It is declared that Swine influenza will not be infected by eating pork or pork related food items. The symptoms can take up to 1 day to show that one has been affected and it may also take up to 7 days for the evidence. There is more probability for the affected person to spread the contagious virus before he comes to know that he is affected.

Once when a person develops such symptoms, he must rush in to the near by hospital and oseltamivir or zanamivir are recommended for the treatment. These anti viral drugs will help you fight against the infection of flu and prevents the replica of virus inside the body. These viruses have the potential to live for 2 years outside the body surface and hence virus may be prevalent on the dry hotel benches and furniture. It is advised to have the hands washed at regular intervals.

To get prevented from Swine flu virus, it is prescribed

* Avoid close contact with sick people. They may be contagious to this kind of virus

* Avoid touching your nose, mouth and eyes.

* Cover yourself with a tissue paper while coughing and dispose the tissue safely.

* Have safe washing your hands with soap at regular intervals.

The Swine flu has caused one confirmed death in USA and there are many cases reported world wide. Remember “Prevention is always better than cure”.
